| SHOWING | PEGGY CZYL |
| I've documented the stages of the oil painting "Country House" by taking photos of the work in progress. Some photos were taken at the end of a day, and some were taken after the course of several days. Below are the photographs following the progress of this work. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. contact ........................................................................................................................................ Beginning .......................................... I started by toning the canvas overall with a bright orange. Then I sketched the basic forms and structures onto the orange canvas. The next step was to block in the dark and shadow areas with a deeper color. Here I used a deep purple. I also put in the initial sky. I prefer my sky to be a mixture of color, never just 'blue'. My intent for using the bright orange was to allow some of the color to remain on the finished piece - in small, selected areas. This helps to unify the painting and helps brighten the other colors. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

Block in Colors .......................................... Here I blocked in the distant mountain trees as well as the bushes to the right of the house and the forground grass.. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

Focus .......................................... Next, I concentrated on the focal point of the painting by adding white to the house and being sure to indicate the begining stages of the interesting shadows. I also added color to the small structure to the left of the house. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

More Darks .......................................... This next stage shows better definition in the tree, and I've added windows to the house. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

More Overall .......................................... Various areas have received attention here. The tree has more detail including leaves, the small structure has more highlights and shadows, as well as the light frame around the window. The bushes on the right of the house also have more definition in the leaves. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

Foreground .......................................... Finally, time for the foreground. I've worked quite a bit on the foreground here, adding leaves and flowers, but trying to keep it fairly loose without adding a whole lot of individual leaves or flowers so that the main focus is kept on the house. I've also worked more on the shadows of the house, and made small adjustments around the whole painting. .......................................... Click here to see a larger image |

Final .......................................... This is the fun part. After working from photos in my studio, I now headed out to compare it to real life, and, of course, made a few more changes. Some include the taller bushes on the right of the house, adjusting shadows a bit, adding more blue to the sky, and details such as the chimney, and telegraph pole. I played some more with the tree, darkening areas and removing some of the foliage. I also added bushes near the house and some additional interest to the front lawn, which helps to lead your eye back to the house. ..........................................
